Philippine Commemorative Coins in My Collection

I used to work at a small scale lending business, where one of my duties was to manually count the money collected. Every now and then, there are coins that may look legitimate, but on closer inspection, were actually demonetized or of currencies of a different country. That started my interest to collect Philippine coins that are not in circulation anymore, or coins from other countries. They may not be in mint condition, but the idea of  having something being used in the past fascinates me. Not everyone will be able to hold such coins anymore, and I'm glad to have something tangible from history. The coins featured in this post are the Philippine those that were minted to commemorate a significant event as a nation. 

1. 100th Year Birth Anniversary of Elpidio Quirino, the sixth President of the Republic of the Philippines

    * Obverse shows the bust of the former president and the years 1890 ( his birth year) - 1990

    * Reverse shows the Seal of The of the President of the Philippines

    * Currency: Two Pesos ( Php 2.00)

    * Year Minted: 1992

    * Status: Demonetized

2. Dekada ng Kulturang Pilipino 1998- 1998 (Decade of Philippine Culture).  This is to                   commemorate the decade leading  to the 100th year of Philippine Independence from Spain on 

    June  12, 1898.

    * Currency :  One Peso ( Php 1.00)

    * Obverse shows busts of three indigenous Filipinos, the Banaue Rice Terrraces, Abaca, Vinta, the        Chocolate Hills and the years 1988- 1998.
    * Reverse shows Philippine Coat of Arms.
    * Year minted: 1989
    * Status: Demonetized

3. 50th anniversary of Araw ng Kagitingan ( Day of Valor). This day is in remembrance  of the         Filipino and American soldiers during the Fall of Bataan in April 9, 1942.

    * Currency: One Peso ( Php 1.00)

    * Obverse shows  the years 1942, 1992; the Philippine Flag, A bust of a Filipino soldier, Dambana         ng Kagitingan ( the Cross on Mount Samat National Shrine)

    *  Reverse shows Philippine Coat of Arms

    * Year minted: 1992

    * Status: Demonetized

4. Ika- 100 Taong Kaarawan ni Manuel Roxas . This is to commemorate the  100th Birth                     Anniversary   of          Manuel A. Roxas, who served as Philippine President from 1946-1948.
    * Currency: Two Pesos (Php 2.00)
    * Obverse show the bust of Manuel A Roxas and the years 1982-1992
    * Reverse shows the Seal of the President of the Philippines
    * Year minted: 1992
    * Status: Demonetized

 5. 150th Birth Anniversary of Andres Bonifacio, who was one of the Philippines' greatest heroes.          He was born November 30, 1863. The coin is bi- mettalic
    * Currency: 10 Pesos (Php 10.00)
    * Obverse shows Andres Bonifacio' s portrait, the words " Republika ng Pilipinas", "2013", "10              Piso", and "Andres Bonifacio"
    * Reverse shows the words " Dangal at Kabayanihan" ( Honor and Heroism), Bonifacio's                       signature, the new logo of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, 150 years, 1863-2013.
